12 Months On: How the New Member of the COBA Family Has Changed

It has been 12 months since COBA Plastics Moulding became a part of the COBA family. Originally CD Plastic Mouldings, an established company of over 30 years and one of the most successful UK plastic injection moulders, it was acquired by COBA in 2016 and rebranded into COBA Plastics Moulding.

What’s Changed Already?

COBA Plastics Moulding was originally operating out of a facility on Scudamore Road, where they had been for 29 years. Once acquired by COBA, the company was relocated to a new home in Whetstone, which is more than twice the size of its previous one.

The new space has also allowed COBA Plastics Moulding to acquire new and improved equipment. When moving into the Whetstone facility, 19 injection-moulding machines were put into place, ranging in size from 22MT to 420mT of clamping force, allowing the production of both old and new products for the company’s portfolio.

The extra space has also allowed room for an additional Krauss Maffei machine and four new Arburg machines. This added capacity has allowed us to meet and exceed new and existing customers’ expectations.

COBA’s already existing injection moulding capacity has also merged with COBA Plastics Moulding, moving into the new facility in Whetstone with them, adding further enrichment to the capability of the UK plastics moulding division.

New and Old Faces

Alex Cartwright - CPM

Over the past 12 months, the people working at COBA Plastics Moulding have changed, some new faces coming in and promotion for some of our existing employees.

Alex Cartwright, who has been working for the company since 1994, has over 23 years of service. He has fulfilled a number of different positions and in the last 12 months has now been promoted to Planning and Logistics Manager. Amanda Chapman, who has been working within the Quality department has also been promoted to Trainee Quality Engineer.

Anthony Lock and Wayne Branston who have 7 and 4 years of dedicated service respectively have transitioned into new roles themselves. Anthony has been promoted and made the move from Second Operations to Stores, and Wayne has been promoted to his new role as Second Operations Team Leader.

In the past 12 months, Jean Dias has also been promoted to Production Manager. Craig Freeman has transitioned from Setter to Process Engineer and has already made significant improvements with a fresh outlook to existing production challenges. Darren Bartram has been promoted to Grade I Tool Technician and we have embarked on a Setter Training program with Matt Byers and Joe Garcia with others to follow.

“When we became part of the COBA Group we knew there would be many changes to accommodate,” says Chris Ellis, Technical Director of COBA Plastics Moulding. “Some of these changes have been significant and they have been met with positivity from the staff. We are creating a great team atmosphere which shall be a solid foundation for future development and growth. We look forward to the next 12 months with anticipation.”

We hope that our employees, new and old, are enjoying their roles and have settled into them. We hope that they are as excited as us to see what the next year has in store for COBA Plastics Moulding.
