We’re still redirecting the bills and the paint is drying but we’re very much settled into the new home of COBA Plastics Moulding in Whetstone, Leicestershire.
The decision to move was an easy one, however it wasn’t taken lightly. CD Plastic Mouldings had worked out of the Scudamore Road factory for 29 years, so it was a huge undertaking to transfer operations in the timeframe of a matter of weeks.
At 40,000 square feet the new facility is more than two and half times the size of the previous one (15,000), and it is hoped that the extra space will allow COBA’s specialist moulding division to develop and grow to support new and existing clients alike. Moving forward as COBA Plastics Moulding, some significant goals have been put in place, however it is hoped that as part of the successful COBA International group it means they can be realised.
From mid February, all 19 injection-moulding machines were in place in Whetstone. Ranging in size from 22mT to 420 mT of clamping force, our machinery has the capability not only to produce the huge range of products already in the company’s portfolio, but many new undertakings. All 60 staff are also fully ‘moved in’ and enjoying the new surroundings, and are excited about what is to come for the business.
More space means that we have already been able to expand capability, taking delivery of another Krauss Maffei machine, which has rapidly expanded our 2k manufacturing capability. Producing parts in two materials opens up a huge array of new solutions for not only the automotive industry but also other sectors too. More on this subject is coming soon.
The move also means that COBA’s existing injection moulding capacity will merge with CPM’s. Until recently, it operated out of the Riverside facility in Market Harborough. The people and technology further enriches the capability of the new moulding division to help compete in the market.
